Definition
A laminate calculator converts room area into pack counts including expansion gap allowance.
Explanation
Laminate clicks together as floating floors. Expansion gaps at walls are mandatory. Underlay is ordered separately by roll or board area.
Worked example
A 4.2m × 3.8m bedroom (15.96 m²) with 10% waste needs 17.6 m² — 8 packs at 2.2 m² each.
Summary
Always round up laminate packs and order matching underlay for the same area.

Why expansion gaps matter
Laminate expands with temperature and humidity. Without 8–10mm at walls and through doorways, boards buckle in summer — the callback is expensive and entirely avoidable.
Transition strips at doors cover the gap and protect edges. Never fix skirting through the floating floor.
Stagger joints and count packs
Stagger end joints by at least 30cm between rows for stability and appearance. Round up to whole packs — suppliers rarely accept opened returns on custom colours.
