What is flooring estimating software?

Flooring estimating software turns room measurements into a priced quote. In PlanCutFit you draw the rooms and stairs, choose carpet, LVT, laminate, vinyl or wood, and it works out the rolls or packs, waste, underlay and accessories, prices them with your own costs and fitting rates, shows your margin, and produces the quote and supplier order list from the same plan.

Plans start at £49 a month, with a free trial and no card needed. See pricing

How it works

How flooring estimating software works in PlanCutFit

  1. 1

    Measure

Rooms, stairs, doors and odd shapes drawn to size.

  2. 2

    Take off materials

Rolls, packs, sheet, underlay, gripper and door bars.

  3. 3

    Cost and price

Your costs, fitting rates and margin, checked before sending.

  4. 4

    Quote and order

Branded quote, then the order list grouped by supplier.

Floor plan measuring that feeds the price

Draw rectangles, L, T and U shapes or wall by wall, add doors and stairs, and type exact sizes. Every room’s area and perimeter go straight into the estimate, so nothing gets re-typed.

  • Rooms, stairs, doors and cut-outs
  • Exact sizes, typed or drawn
  • Several floors on one job

Material take-off for every floor type

Carpet and sheet vinyl are planned on the roll with joins and trim. LVT, laminate and wood are worked out in packs with your waste allowance. Underlay, gripper and door bars come with them.

  • Roll goods: drops, joins, trim
  • Pack goods: packs with waste
  • Accessories from your price list

Job costing before you send

Each quote shows cost, sell and profit, so you know the job is worth doing before the customer sees it. Discounts, VAT and deposits are set on the quote.

  • Cost, sell and profit per job
  • VAT on or off
  • % or fixed deposits

From estimate to order list

Once it’s accepted, the order list comes from the same plan, grouped by supplier with your account numbers. Email it or copy it into WhatsApp.

Worked example

Example: a 4.2 m × 3.6 m kitchen in LVT, straight or herringbone?

  • Floor area: 4.2 × 3.6 = 15.12 m²
  • Laid straight with 10% waste: 16.63 m², so 8 packs of 2.2 m² (17.6 m² delivered)
  • Laid herringbone, waste goes up to 27% in a room this wide: 19.20 m², so 9 packs (19.8 m²)
  • One extra pack, more cutting time and a different fitting rate: all on the quote before it goes out

Pack sizes, waste and prices come from your own products. Try the numbers in the free LVT and waste calculators.

What to look for in flooring estimating software

Most estimating tools are built for builders and work out an area. A flooring estimate needs more than that. Here is what to check, and how PlanCutFit does on each.

  1. 1

It does flooring maths, not just m²

Carpet and sheet vinyl need roll widths, joins, pile direction and trim. LVT, laminate and wood need whole packs with waste for the way they’re laid. Stairs need pricing per tread. PlanCutFit does all of these from the drawn plan.

  2. 2

You can measure and quote on site

If the estimate only happens back at the office, the quote goes out a day later. PlanCutFit runs on a phone or tablet, works with no signal and can send the quote before you leave the house.

  3. 3

It uses your prices and shows your profit

Your products, cost prices, sell prices and fitting rates, so every estimate shows cost, sell and margin before the customer sees it.

  4. 4

The estimate becomes the quote, the order and the job sheet

Re-typing measurements into a quote, an order and a job sheet is where mistakes creep in. In PlanCutFit the same plan feeds all three, and the customer can accept and pay the deposit online.

  5. 5

    It suits UK jobs

Prices in pounds, VAT on or off per quote, metres or feet and inches, and the roll widths UK suppliers sell.

  6. 6

It fits the work you do

PlanCutFit is built for measuring homes and shops on site. If most of your work is new-build estimating from architects’ drawings, a drawing take-off tool may suit you better.

Questions

Flooring estimating software: questions people ask

What flooring types does it estimate?

Carpet, LVT, laminate, sheet vinyl and wood, plus stairs. Roll goods are planned on the roll; pack goods are worked out in packs with your waste allowance.

Can I type exact measurements instead of drawing?

Yes. Pick a room shape and type each wall length from your tape or laser, or draw it and adjust the sizes.

What’s the difference between estimating and take-off software?

Take-off software measures quantities from drawings. Estimating software goes on to price them: materials, waste, labour, extras and margin. PlanCutFit does both from a plan you draw on site, then turns it into the quote.

Can I use feet and inches?

Yes. Each plan can be in metres, feet or inches.

Does it use my own prices?

Yes. You add your products, underlays, accessories and fitting rates once, with your cost and sell prices. Every quote uses them, and you see your profit on the job before you send it.

Does it work with no signal?

Yes. Measuring, quoting, photos and job updates all work offline and save on your phone. Everything uploads when you’re back in range, and it shows you if anything is still waiting.

How much does it cost?

Plans start at £49 a month for a sole trader and £199 a month for a shop with a team, with a 7-day free trial and no card needed. Card payments from customers go through Stripe, so Stripe’s fees apply; bank transfers are free.
