What is carpet estimating software?
Carpet estimating software works out how much carpet a job needs and what it costs. PlanCutFit plans how each room comes off your roll width, shows the joins and pile direction, adds stairs per tread, and prices the carpet, underlay, gripper, door bars and fitting from your price list.
Plans start at £49 a month, with a free trial and no card needed. See pricing
How it works
How carpet estimating software works in PlanCutFit

Sizes from your tape or laser, plus doors and stairs.
- 2

Carpet, underlay, gripper, door bars and fitting.
Cut plans you can trust (and change)
Each room is laid out on the roll with the joins drawn on. Rearrange the cuts yourself if you know a better way round, and your plan is saved with the job.
- Drops and joins drawn on the plan
- Pile direction shown
- Rearrange and save by hand

Stairs, landings and winders
Add the flight, the winders and the landing and price per tread. It all goes on the same estimate and order as the rooms.
- Per-tread pricing
- Straight flights, winders, landings
- Same order as the rooms

Underlay, gripper and door bars included
Underlay follows the room areas, gripper follows the walls, and the doors you add set the door bars.
- Underlay by area
- Gripper by the metre round the room
- Door bars from the doors on the plan

Worked example
Example: a 5.2 m × 4.3 m room, 4 m roll or 5 m roll?
- On a 4 m roll the room is wider than the roll either way round, so it needs a join
- Best on 4 m: two drops of 4.40 m (10 cm trim) = 35.2 m², one join
- On a 5 m roll the 4.3 m width fits in one drop: 5.30 m × 5 m = 26.5 m², no join
- Same room, 8.7 m² less carpet and no seam, just from the roll width
This is why roll width matters when you choose the carpet. Try it in the free carpet roll calculator.

Questions
Carpet estimating: questions people ask
Does it handle patterned or directional carpet?
It shows the pile direction on the plan, and you can rearrange the cuts by hand for pattern matching.
What roll widths can I use?
Any width you stock. 4 m and 5 m are the usual ones; set the width on each carpet in your price list.
Does it use my own prices?
Yes. You add your products, underlays, accessories and fitting rates once, with your cost and sell prices. Every quote uses them, and you see your profit on the job before you send it.
How much does it cost?
Plans start at £49 a month for a sole trader and £199 a month for a shop with a team, with a 7-day free trial and no card needed. Card payments from customers go through Stripe, so Stripe’s fees apply; bank transfers are free.
