Practical notes: What Is Saxony Carpet?
Carpet remains the largest category for domestic fitters in the UK. The notes below go beyond definitions — practical advice you can use on surveys and in customer conversations.
Why this matters on real jobs
Best in low-traffic rooms. Regular vacuuming lifts the pile. Avoid on stairs if you want minimal marking.
The summary above captures the essentials — below is how experienced fitters and estimators apply this day to day in UK homes and light commercial work.
Customer conversation tips
Ask where foot traffic is heaviest before recommending pile type. Hall stairs and lounge loops need different products — one recommendation for the whole house often leads to returns.
Show underlay options with tog and density explained; upselling quality underlay is easier when customers understand lifespan and feel.
Common mistakes to avoid
Under-ordering material to win a price-sensitive quote — revisits erase margin faster than a slightly higher first quote.
Skipping written scope: always document what is excluded (furniture moving, subfloor prep, door trimming) alongside what is included.
- Luxurious feel
- Classic appearance
